The British Commonwealth service at Westminster Abbey saw the first public joint appearance of the Sussexes and the Cambridges since Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s decision to step down as senior members of the royal family. The annual ceremony also marks the final official event of the Sussexes before they decamp for one of its frontier outposts, Western Canada, and an uncertain new life as semi-royals.
This time, Meghan Markle wore a bold, emerald Emilia Wickstead cape dress, which she accessorised with a hat by William Chambers, while Kate Middleton opted for a more sustainable approach as she rewore an old favourite—a red Catherine Walker London coat dress, trimmed in velvet and first seen on Christmas Day in 2018.
When it comes to sartorial diplomacy, swipe to have a closer look at how the royals were best in show by a mile—from Markle in a scarlet red cape dress by Safiyaa paired with Stuart Weitzman, to Middleton radiating sustainable elegance by re-wearing a beaded Jenny Packham blue gown that she last worn in India in 2016.
