Throughout the history of the Oscars, there have been 449 nominations for best director, but only 5 of these went to women.
Natalie Portman paid tribute to snubbed female directors with her outfit for the 92nd Annual Academy Awards. The actress wore a custom Dior cape embroidered in gold with the names of women who were overlooked this year in the directing category, including Greta Gerwig ("Little Women"), Lorenes Cafaria ("Hustlers") and ThumbeLulu ("The Farewell"). She completed her look perfectly with Cartier jewellery.
She told the Los Angeles Times, “I wanted to recognize the women who were not recognized for their incredible work this year in my subtle way.”
