COVID-19 Is Now Officially A Pandemic, WHO Says

On Wednesday, March 11, the World Health Organization announced that Covid-19 is officially classified as a pandemic—the first time it’s done so since 2009’s H1N1. Most recently, Disney has postponed the theatrical release of Mulan amid growing concerns over the outbreak, according to The Star. Meanwhile, several international blockbusters have also been pushed forward to new or unknown dates on the release calenders including 'No Time To Die' and 'Fast and Furious 9', while Paramount Pics indefinitely shelved ‘A Quiet Place 2’. More high profiles cancellations followed, from SXSW, to Coachella. ⁣⁣

It’s a worrying time for everyone, however, there are ways to keep things moving in the right direction. The ripple effects of the virus do have implications for the people around the world who make a living producing and distributing movies, music, and many other industries. In the wake of Covid-19, BAZAAR put together a guide to highlight the reminder that everyone is on the same page to be emotionally prepared, while stepping up precautions against the widespread of the virus. ⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣

1. The official advice from WHO is to wash your hands with soap and hot water regularly for 20 seconds, or the amount of time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice. ⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣

2. To eliminate any droplets containing the virus on any surfaces, simply wiping with tissue paper or cloth won’t make a difference. According to Dr. Ravi Tomar, a GP at Portland Medical, “It’s essential that you’re using universal cleaning wipes that have antibacterial and antiviral properties.” ⁣⁣

⁣⁣

3. Sara Dewhurst, a psychotherapist and owner of The WellNes TRV, advises coping techniques that will help people living with phobias, OCD, and other anxiety-based disorders. For instance, when done mindfully with breathing, it can help alleviate physical symptoms of anxiety, such as tight chest or headache.⁣⁣
