Alberta Ferretti AW20 Collection presents '80s revival from Milan

The Alberta Ferretti show was an ‘80s revival from Milan, kicking off some of the most popular trends of the era. None is more iconic than the oversized shoulders, power suits, highlighted waistlines, and bold metallics. This season, models took to the runway in black leather jackets and shapely tuxedos, confident enough to belt them with gold, and layered on with gilded necklaces—a great way to contrast all the dark colours and sleepy shades of autumn.⁣⁣ They were completed with sleek chignons, giving the hair a more structured and wet look. ⁣⁣

The 1980s is a decade that has been making a comeback of sorts around the aesthetic edges. It was, after all, the era of bright neon and pastels, New Wave music, and time-travelling DeLoreans—including a massive take on styles derived from the clothes of the ‘40s, a time when women moved forward to join the workplace, with a sense of sexual liberation and youth, alongside freedom expressed through clothes. Being a wise woman—not a showgirl—the designer's latest collection was a coherent effort depicting a stronger feminine character than you would usually expect at Ferretti. ⁣⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣The exquisite, feminine dresses were still the pillar of the designer's latest collection. With tremblant sequins and a bold mix of red and plum purple in chiffon and tulle, these pieces were truer to Ferretti’s long-held romantic inclinations.⁣ ⁣
